Guide for new Muslims · 07 · 5 min
Your new life
Islam is not only rituals — it is a way of living that embraces everyday life. Here are some things many new Muslims wonder about.
Food and drink
Muslims eat what is halal — permitted — and avoid, among other things, pork and alcohol. In practice, halal food is available in most Norwegian shops, and more and more products are clearly labelled.
You do not need to do everything in one day. Begin with the biggest things, and adjust your habits little by little.
Habits that build you up
Islam encourages good habits: honesty, patience, being good to parents and neighbours, and keeping your word. Much of this you surely already carry with you.
The daily prayers give the day a rhythm, and many find a new calm when life gains a fixed anchor.
Being yourself
You do not become a new person with a new personality — you become yourself, with a new direction. Your culture, humour and background are still part of you.
Be patient with yourself. Faith is a journey, not a test you pass or fail.
